STEP-BY-STEP : Getting Started and Basics

 

1) Register your Team

 

- Prepare an image, Format: jpeg, Size: 128x90 or 110x110
  (the faces should be recognizable)
- Choose a name for the group
  (12 letters max., no special characters)
- Choose a password for the group (6-8 letters)
- Select "WORK" from the programming course web-page
- Select "Register" in the upper right corner
- Fill out the form
- Hit "Register Now" to submit

2) Upload the Exercise Results

 

- prepare the respective files
   (image, code, MAYA binary, movie, instructions.txt)
- Go to "WORK" on the web-site
- Select "Upload Work"
- Select the respective exercise
- Shortly describe your concept
- Upload files according to the requirements of the exercise

3) NT Environment ... Saving ... Control-Z

 

- To login use the Unix account name and password of the E29 cluster
  (non-D-ARCH students can get a temporary account )
- Start MAYA from the Start Menu or the Desktop Icon if provided
- Draw one primitive and save the scene with Main Menu > File > Save Scene as ...
- In the dialog move up the directory structure to the top and chose an appropriate disk and folder
- Buy a PC-formatted ZIP diskette (the local disc of the NT machines will be erased from time-to-time)
- Never forget to copy your work onto the ZIP at the end of a session

- If Control-Z is not working for "undo" (on Swiss German keyboards) try Control-Y
